Welcome to Slave of the Muse

'How can you truly live without remebering the dead?'

Fall is the time people look to the changes of the seasons and face death one last time.  Slave of the Muse was not interested in creating another cheap Halloween event.  Instead, we hoped to impart a high energy night with a notion rarely seen in American culture.  Pondering all who had died before us creating all that we take for granted; as the dismal yet celebratory holiday was originally intended.  Then, living life as though death can come for any of us at any time.

Anonymity 1 contest winnerSince Anonymity 1 was a translation of a Venetian masquerade ball it seemed fitting that our sophomore event should take on an evolved form of a masque.  Complete with a procession leading to the event, masked performers, orators and games for patrons by mummers.

The Procession Dei Morti was a sight, with humanistic cloaked figures, marching by the direction of The Warrior Herald of Death.  Behind the stoic procession was the massive, ten foot tall, Lord Dei Mortis and his spectral walkers.  The oppressive line was orbited by a mad horseman and manifested Nightmares—The Yukei.

Not lending itself to any spirituality in existence, The Procession Dei Morti still conveyed the ideal of the innate fear of death, the cruxes of all human faith in the outworldly and divine, and drew onlookers en masse. The Procession Dei Morti marched through the Las Vegas Art District at First Fridays, Renaissance Faire and on the day of the event, into the ball itself.

The Masque itself was a dance party with a little bit of living theatre.  Slave of the Muse hosted and performed in numerous acts; from contortionism, a young woman slain and brought before Lord of Purgatory, a Creole Bone Daddy killing patrons and raising them back from the dead, and combat between The Warrior Herald of the Dead and Lord of Purgatory.

Anonymity 2 Sultry Patrons

The patron response was amazing in memories and in spiritual reflection concerning death.  Masque began to unfurl the stories created in the background of ideals that would transfer to many of our other events.

Additionally, Masque Dei Mortis became a our consistent theme for the Las Vegas Reniassance Faire for three years, adding more to the story and giving the night time patrons of the festival a glimpse into mortality. To see our Las Vegas Renaissance Faire images and video CLICK HERE
