Original E Flier for Voltaire - Grand Opening of the Muse

We were not sure when we were going to open. We wanted to open the doors to The Muse. We were hoping for Labor Day of 2010, but the work load seemed entirely too great. At the sametime, the build crew did not want to loose momentum with no goal on the horizon. Dj Disdain came to us with an odd idea. He said that Voltaire was looking to do a convention in Las Vegas and was hoping he could perform a gig here to help pay for his costs - second week of June. How serendipitous that we could finish in time and still open the doors with a bang. We agreed and began corresponding with Voltaire immediately.

Many of the followers for Slave of the Muse events liked his music and with our last event being a Steampunk Affair it would be a great way to start off the tenure of The Muse.

After picking him up from the airport - Voltaire was standing in the center of the Muse, watching a system of chaoticallly diligent people run around tacking things to walls, mopping, stocking the bar and setting up audio.  It was two hours before The Muse’s Grand Opening and it felt as though nothing was finished. We still needed items from his rider for performance. A mic stand was missing, James Bruce was still setting up the amps and boards to link to the speakers and crew members had ladders out tacking the lace to the walls.

We feared we had made a bad impression on him and that we were going to destroy The Muse's reputation before it ever began. 30 minutes before the doors opened we took our first full crew picture in the Muse, he was gracious enough to join us and even sat in the Throne to be the first to be photographed on it at The Muse.

The doors opened and 140+ people came that night to see what we had been upto and to enjoy an artist many of them liked. He took the stage at nearly 11 and had the entire room, laughing, singing and playing along with his performance banter. When 20 people got on stage with him, we were a bit worried the new stage would cave - we had never anticipated that much weight on it and hoped it would hold up.

By the end of the night Voltaire had talked with nearly everyone. He was gracious and enjoyable company. He left thanking us and saying that we had a very unique and good group. He hoped to come back and play again someday.

We sat on the floor at the end of the night, content and pleased that we had such a fine performer to start our journey as the Muse.

Below is a video shot by Frank Yoder during Voltaires performance. We will see if we can find more to list in the future.
